Piles of mail, coupons and gift cards were driving me crazy. We had a drawer in the kitchen for coupons and gift cards for a while but quickly realized that if they were out of sight like that, they weren't getting used. So we had a lot of unused coupons expiring and gift cards taking up valuable drawer space. Baby Winters' arrival finally lit a fire under our butts to do something about it and come up with a home organization solution that fit the style of our home.
When I looked for home organization systems online, I found a lot of the same old-fashioned looking ornamental wire-framed baskets, or wood planks with key-hooks. The ones with enough storage definitely did not fit our style, and the ones that had a look I liked didn't have the functionality I desired. Enter, galvanized steel pegboard. It had the contemporary look that we liked, and it would be totally flexible with regard to functionality. From hooks, to baskets, to shelves, there are plenty of options to have the perfect space for whatever you wish to store.
We decided to go with the Wall Control 30-P-3232GV Galvanized Steel Pegboard Pack. We also ordered peggable wire baskets, a shelf and hook assortment. We ordered value packs where we could as we also purchased a couple pegboard strips to hang in the garage as well. These are seriously the best! They are heavy duty but fairly easy to hang. They are heavy though so definitely a two-person project - but it goes really quickly!
We had the perfect place in our mudroom to hang the two sheets vertically. This allows for plenty of room to hang keys, have baskets for sunglasses, coupons, gift cards and take-out menus. Using both also allows for room to hang pictures, cards and whatever else we feel like magnetizing up there!
The galvanized steel is a fun modern twist that complements the stainless steel appliances just a little further in the kitchen. By using the shelves and magnets to display pictures and other personalized items, you can easily strike the perfect balance between inviting and industrial. I'm not super crafty and will admit that if it can't be hung with command strips, it usually doesn't make it on the wall. This was one DIY fix that I fully recommend though, even if it requires just a little bit of drilling!
